Eryuhe Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at the Eryu River, 8 km northwest of Shanyang, Shaanxi. It was named by Shaanxi Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1966.
Lithology and Thickness
Sandstone and Coal. Lower part consists of light-gray sandstone and pebbled sandstone, intercalated with moderately thick-bedded limestone and carbonaceous slate. Upper part, of dark-gray slate intercalated with quartzose sandstone, coal seams and limestone. Thickness >990 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Uncertain: The bottom is cut by faults. Next older regional unit is the Tieshan Fm of upper Devonian
Upper contact
Uncertain: The top is cut by faults. Next higher regional unit is the Caoliangyi Fm

Depositional setting
It is interpreted as a suite of littoral-swamp sediments.
Additional Information
When the formation was named by Shaanxi Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1966, the Xiadonggou Fm was also named, and the two were considered to be in conformable contact. But it was later verified by Ding Han et al. (1986) that the latter formation (consisting of slate and limestone) should be attributed to the early Late Carboniferous.
